CALCIUM CARBONATE ANTACID - CHEWABLE TABLETS

(KAL-see-um KAR-buh-nate) 

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Dicarbosil, Rolaids, Titralac, Tums 

USES:  This medication is an antcaid used to relieve upset stomach, heartburn or gas caused by stomach acid.  

HOW TO USE:  Take this by mouth as diretced.  Chew thoroughly and swallow.  Do not swallow the tablets whole. <br/>Follow each dose with a full glass of water. Do not rasie the dose or take this more often than prescribed.  If you feel your dose is not effective, consult your doctor.  <br/>

SIDE EFFECTS:  This medication is genearlly well tolerated.  Constipation or stomach cramps may occur.  <br/>Notify your doctor if they continue or become severe. <br/>Tell your doctor immediately if any of tehse serious side effects occur: loss of appetite, vomiting, dizziness, headache.  If you notice ohter effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.  

PRECAUTIONS:  Before taking this, tell your dcotor if you have: kidney disease, any allergies. Aovid taking more doses than recommended.  This medication is considered safe for use during pregnancy or breast-feeding when used as directed.  

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your doctor of any nonprescription or prescription medication you may take including: certain antibiotics (e.G., tetracyclines, quinolones), demeclocycline, methacycline, verapamil (a calcium channel blocker), quinidine, sodium polystyrene sulfonate, iron-containing products.  Do not satrt or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.  

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.  <br/>Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, tiredness, and weakenss.  

NOTES:  There are various forms of this mdeication available.  The chewable tablets offer convenience but the liquid form is faster acting. Talk to your health care provider or pahrmacist about the hottest product for you.  <br/>If your condition does not improve or worsens, contact your doctor or pharmacist.  If your stools become dark in color or you vomit what looks like coffee grounds, contact your doctor as these may be signs of stomach bleeding 

MISSED DOSE:  If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.  Do not "double-up" the dose to ctach up. 

STORAGE:  Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.  Do not store in the bathroom.]]></description>
